Dos Santos, a family-run taqueria originating in Denver, is one of Nashville’s most popular new restaurants with 4.6 stars from over 70 reviews on Google. The restaurant officially opened in the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood on Friday, December 13, 2024.

Dos Santos launched in 2015 by Jason Wallenta, his wife, Riley O’Brien, and his brother Kris Wallenta as a celebration of their Mexican heritage. Growing up in Mexico City and spending time on the Yucatan Peninsula and in Cozumel, Jason and Kris gained hands-on experience in the culinary world by working in kitchens with their uncle, which inspired them to open Dos Santos. There are currently four Dos Santos locations, with three situated in Colorado and one in Tennessee. Guests can expect a Yucatan-inspired take on Mexican cuisine, authentic dishes, a robust tequila and mezcal list, as well as weekly food and drink specials. The restaurant currently offers brunch, lunch, and dinner service. Nashville Guru stopped by to get a look inside.

The Interior

The 3,300-square-foot space features seating for up to 100 guests and showcases a mix of craftsmanship and modern flair. Designed by co-founder Riley O’Brien and Remick Architecture, the interior displays custom wood installations by Sons of Sawdust and handmade lighting from local ceramic artist Emma Hern. Retractable doors line the restaurant, seamlessly connecting the interior with the outdoor space.

The Exterior

Dos Santos is located behind Diskin Cider and beside Residences at The Finery. The outdoor area is designed for sunny weather days and gatherings for all party sizes, featuring a string-lit patio with tables, relaxed lounge seating, and stools lining an indoor/outdoor bar window. The patio can accommodate up to 60 guests. There is also a to-go breakfast burrito window that serves breakfast burritos, fresh juice, Horchata, and coffee daily beginning at 7:00am.

The Menu

The food menu, crafted by Chef and Co-Owner Kris Wallenta, offers a refined spin on classic Mexican food, with a strong emphasis on regional Yucatan flavors. Tacos are served a la carte on freshly-made corn tortillas, with delicious and flavorful fillings. The menu also features a raw bar, with selections like Tuna Tiradito (salsa negra, cucumber, jalapeno, fried red onion, sesame) and Poke Nachos (house chips, poke marinated tuna, sesame aioli, pickled onion). If you’re dining for brunch, the Steak and Eggs (two tacos on corn tortillas with steak arrachera, fried egg, salsa verde, onion, cotija) and Cujo Taco (breakfast taco with griddled cotija cheese, guacamole, fried egg, cilantro) come highly recommended. The drink list is agave-focused, including house margaritas, a curated mezcal and tequila selection, and signature drinks like the Carajillo (Liquor 43, espresso) and Paloma (blanco, lime, fresh grapefruit, soda).
