5th & Taylor - Germantown-35

Germantown’s newest restaurant, 5th and Taylor, officially opened to the public on Monday, April 27, 2015. The casual American restaurant is the creation of chef and restauranteur Daniel Lindley, a six-time James Beard award nominee. 5th and Taylor is now serving dinner nightly from 5pm to 11pm

5th & Taylor’s Atmosphere

5th & Taylor - Germantown-3

5th and Taylor is located in a large, raw warehouse in historic Germantown. The space, which was designed by Lindley and De Jong & Co., is rustic and airy with high ceilings, dark custom furniture, fiddle leaf fig trees, and low-lighting. Dozens of candles align the center divider where a large statue of General Francis Nash stands. Cessna Decosimo, an artist and long-time friend of chef Lindley’s, was commissioned to create the statue. Decosimo and Lindley collaborated on most of the other art in the space, including the large paintings aligning the lounge area walls.

A private dining space hides behind one-way mirrors in a speakeasy-like atmosphere. The one-way mirrors allow private diners to overlook the main dining room without being seen. The dining room can be divided for smaller parties, making it suitable for groups ranging from about 12 to 70 people.

Within a week or two guests will be able to enjoy the outdoor patio. It has ample designated seating plus a lounge area where patrons can sit or stand on a first-come, first-served basis. The patio features a fountain, a Decosimo statue, and evergreen trees surrounding the perimeter. The patio also has a large bar with two TVs.

5th & Taylor’s Menu & Cuisine

The American cuisine at 5th and Taylor is largely inspired by Lindley’s Tennessee upbringing. “In many ways, 5th & Taylor is a tribute to the Sunday lunches my mother prepared throughout my childhood. I aspire for the food to have a level of comfort and familiarity in addition to refined execution,” Lindley said.

The menu includes items like cracklin’ cornbread, raw ahi tuna, beer can chicken, and beef tenderloin steak. There are also soups, salads and veggie options. Each of the entrees are served with either mashed potatoes or french fried potatoes, which is one of 5th & Taylor’s trademarks. Also, make sure you get a dessert created by veteran pastry chef Rachel De Jong.

The drink menu includes a large selection of wine, including wine on draft. Draft beer, bottled beer, and speciality cocktails are also available.
