Many people have seen the inspiring documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, a film about Joe Cross, an overweight man suffering from an autoimmune disease who goes on a strict juicing diet and regains his health. The film shows the powerful and nutritious effects of juicing first-hand, leading to a massive juicing movement across the globe.

If you want to get in on the movement or just try a tasty juice or smoothie, Juice Bar Express is the new place to go in Nashville, which is officially open as of October 6, 2014.

John & Vui Hunt

John and Vui Hunt are the power couple behind Juice Bar. These two truly believe in eating healthy and feeling great, which is obvious from their contagious energy. They, too, were inspired by the documentary, but they also had previous experience in the restaurant business in Atlanta with Vui’s vegetarian restaurant, Veggieland. When they moved to Nashville, they missed the excitement of the restaurant business, and were set on opening a health-conscious place. A juice bar fit the bill perfectly. In 2013, they opened the first Juice Bar in Brentwood. Its success inspired them to open Juice Bar Express in the Berry Hill area of Nashville.

Juice Bar Express is perfect for people who want to pop-in and grab a juice or smoothie to-go. You can build your own juice or smoothie, but you may want to try one of Vui’s special recipes. For those of you in a hurry, they have grab-and-go juices, bars, Nola Granola, coconut, fresh spring rolls, parfait, and other easy snacks. The spring rolls are amazing and a nice alternative to a juice or smoothie. For the really adventurous, get a shot of ginger with cayenne for a hot pick-me-up.

You can dive a little deeper and try a juice cleanse. The juices are made fresh and put in 16-ounce mason jars. You can do the Essential Cleanse, which is six juices, or the Juice to Dinner Cleanse, which is four juices, two waters, and a kale/quinoa salad for dinner. They have a recommended juice cleanse recipe, but you can also create your own. The cost of a one-day cleanse is about $45, which includes the jars and tax. To save on your next cleanse, keep your mason jars and reuse them.

Juice Bar Express is made for coming and going, so seating is limited. The space is crisp and vibrant with pink and green accents. We particularly liked the jammin’ music, which made us feel revved up just by walking through the door. The staff is super-friendly, too, which is a huge plus.

As their website says, “Juice Bar is overwhelmingly vegetarian, gluten-free, organic when possible, and always uses 100% whole fruits and vegetables,” so if you want something quick, easy, and healthy, Juice Bar Express should be part of your normal routine.
