Hurry Back - Elliston Place - Nashville-2

Hurry Back is the newest bar to make its way to Elliston Place. Doors will officially open to the public on Sunday, June 8, 2014. We got a look inside and spoke with co-owner Chris Cobb about this new beer hotspot in Nashville.

If you were in Nashville in the 60s and 70s, Hurry Back might sound familiar, especially if you frequented the Elliston Place area. Hurry Back was a simple corner market where you could grab some beer, smokes, and select grocery items, making it a popular stop for college students. Though the new Hurry Back won’t have any smokes or groceries, there will be plenty of beer (particularly high-gravity and imported beer).

Hurry Back is located in the former location of Fiesta Azteca beside Exit/In on the corner of Louise Ave and Elliston Place. With a max capacity of 99, Hurry Back is large but cozy. There is a sizable bar, high-top tables, a booth, and several other seating options. The ceilings are high, allowing for an open feel. When the weather is nice, patrons will love the picnic tables on the patio and the garage doors that open.

Hurry Back has 30 beers on draft and a cooler full of bottles and cans. While there are some places with a good selection of brews, most don’t include this many high-gravity or imported options. There is no liquor or wine and the food menu is limited, so this is the place where beer drinkers unite.

Though the focus is craft-beer-drinking, the Double Chexx Bubble Hockey game is a must-play during your visit. It’s the only place where the Predators play the Blackhawks daily. There are two TVs and a projection screen for big sports games, and board games for those seeking further entertainment.

Our favorite aspect of Hurry Back (besides the beer) is the revival of a piece of history. It’s refreshing to see the resurgence of a historic name and building on Elliston Place. The owners implemented many characteristics of the original Hurry Back Market, including a retro red and white theme and “Ice Cold Beer” signage on the patio. Hurry Back is alive once again, right beside its old friend, Exit/In.
