First Look: Fancypants

A fancy, unfussy, fine-dining establishment named Fancypants is set to open on Friday, July 26, 2024, in East Nashville. You probably recognize the founders’ names–Chef Bryan Lee Weaver, Jake Mogelson, and Michael Shemtov–who brought us Butcher & Bee and Redheaded Stranger. With Fancypants’ 70s-inspired interior, funky tunes, and unique dining concept, we can guarantee you’ll need a reservation. Here’s a first look inside.

The Interior

When you walk into Fancypants, you’re immediately met with an open dining room with vibrant colors and patterns mixed with natural woods and gold metal accents. The exposed concrete back wall whispers this building had a prior life, as a Piggly Wiggly to be exact. The open kitchen gives diners a glimpse into the soul of the restaurant and artistry that the chefs display nightly. Seating is a mix of two-tops, four-tops, booths, and bar stools. The dreamy floral booths seem to beg for a night to remember.

The Exterior

The exterior of the building is understated, with a lot left to the imagination. On the contrary, walking out to the veranda is breathtaking. Moving away from the rich, moody fabrics and colors inside, the outdoor space is light, airy, and floral. It is really beautiful with a lot of seating as well as fans and heaters to keep up with Nashville’s weather. There is parking in the front of the building, which is a welcomed sight.

The Menu

The menu at Fancypants is a prix fixe, multi-course experience that allows each guest to mix and match their own dishes from the core menu. Dishes are expected to be shared family-style. Pricing starts at $70 per person for food, but you can obviously add dishes from their “bonus menu,” if you desire. The chefs have made the menu vegetable-forward with an option to add protein. There are several dishes that are vegan and gluten free as well.

You can expect delicious (and fun!) sweets from Pastry Chef Katie Fair, who created the beautiful Funfetti Cheesecake featured below. The beverage program focuses on West Coast wines, a curated beer list, and classic cocktails with a twist.

The Details

With hours being limited to 5:00pm to 10:00pm Thursday through Sunday, reservations are highly recommended. Remember: When you dine at Fancypants, don’t yourself too seriously, but do have a seriously good time.
