A Look Inside: Henrietta Red

Henrietta Red, a seasonal American restaurant and barroom, officially opens Friday, February 24, 2017. Nashville native and chef Julia Sullivan and business partner Allie Poindexter have partnered with Strategic Hospitality to bring the concept to the Germantown neighborhood. Nashville Guru got a look inside the crisp space.

The Interior

Henrietta Red has a coastal feel, with a mostly blue and white color scheme throughout. The rooms are bright and airy with stunning attention to detail. Local artists played a significant part in the creation process, including aspects like the communal tables, the light fixtures, and the wallpaper in the ladies restroom.

The Barroom

Guests enter through the open-seating barroom, where there’s a 16-seat marble bar, two communal tables, and a cozy seating area in the corner.

The Restaurant

The restaurant section is subtly separated from the barroom by a sliding barn door between two white brick walls. The restaurant features an open kitchen, a marble oyster bar, striking light fixtures, and abundant seating.

The Exterior

Henrietta Red is housed in a white brick building at the corner of 4th and Madison. The building was constructed by former Titans offensive tackle Michael Roos and his wife Kat. There’s a small outdoor section for overflow guests, and an exterior patio, which is expected to open later this year.

The Menu

Oysters are the menu standout item at Henrietta Red. The oyster bar has up to 15 varieties of oysters and shellfish from the East Coast, West Coast, and Gulf Coast. In addition to oysters, the menu includes flavor-packed options like wood roasted mackerel with radishes and salsa verde and spiny lobster with leeks and preserved lemon aioli. The wood-burning oven allows Chef Sullivan to highlight her seasonal cooking. See the opening menus below.

The beverage program has an emphasis on wine, which is curated by Poindexter. Bottles range from classics to more eclectic options. Speciality cocktails and beer are also available.

“Allie and I have wanted to bring an oyster bar to Nashville that was on par with our favorites in New York, New Orleans and the Pacific Northwest,” said Julia Sullivan. “The oyster game is changing and a diverse and interesting variety has become more attainable, even here. We are excited for the oyster bar, however, we will also offer a full, seasonal menu, interesting bar list, and convivial atmosphere for anyone who needs to ease into it.”
