Prima - Gulch - Nashville-62

Prima, the newest restaurant from Community Hospitality who brought us Burger Up and Josephine, is in show-shape and ready to open their doors to the public on Saturday, November 8th.

Prima is located on the ground level of the Terrazzo condo building in the Gulch neighborhood. The Gulch, which is known for other upscale restaurants like The 404 Kitchen and Watermark, is a logical location for Prima, which will also offer a similar dining experience. Prima is easily one of the most anticipated restaurants to open in Nashville this year, and we expect it to be well-received, especially with Community Hospitality’s track record.

Prima’s environment is upscale and contemporary. The ceilings are high, the tablecloths are white, and the wine selection is extensive. There are several booths at the front, four-top tables in the center, and a sleek wrap-around bar in the back. We really like the private dining option for six on the terrace, which overlooks the restaurant (you’ll have to make a special request for this option). There’s also a large private room upstairs, which can accommodate up to 50 people.

The most captivating feature of Prima’s atmosphere is the overhead lighting, which is actually an optical fibre art piece by Bruce Munro, a famous artist who custom-built the lighting for Prima. If you saw Munro’s Light exhibit at Cheekwood last year, you are familiar with Munro’s talent. Buddy Jackson’s painting over the kitchen is also a focal point, providing a pleasant pop of color to the room.

Prima’s Menu

We spoke with Chef Sal Avila and asked him about the cuisine, which he said is internationally-inspired. Avila also called it a “Mediterranean steakhouse with global influence.” The dishes will also have some personal Latin flare, too. When you are trying to decide what to order, Avila recommends the butternut squash fondants as a starter and the braised rabbit as an entree. Dishes range from $10 to $52.
