You may have noticed a new white building on 12th Avenue. This pristine space houses the Flipside, which offers a modern diner-type experience. They are open daily from 11am to late, serving up sixteen unique chicken dishes alongside french fries, tator tots, milkshakes and beers.
The interior is designed like a 1950’s diner with the classic red and teal color scheme. You’ll immediately be drawn to the retro Big Chill refrigerators, a classic RCA Victor sign and a huge painting of The Great Grape Ape, a 1970’s cartoon character. They even have a record player to round-out the vintage vibe.
The food menu focuses heavily on chicken-inspired dishes. Each dish includes a chicken breast pounded thin, which you can have topped or made into a sandwich. An example includes “The Memphis,” which the chicken is seasoned and sautéed then topped with Edley’s barbecue sauce, bacon, cheddar, and pickle. There is also an array of appetizers, salads and sides. On the sweet side, you’ll find diner favorites like milkshakes and root beer floats.
The drink menu has a range of options, from a large cocktail menu to draft brews. Local breweries represented include Yazoo, Black Abbey, Little Harpeth, Blackstone and TN Brew Works.
As you can see from the photos below, seating includes simple table tops, comfy teal booths, and an awesome bar. The ceilings are high and natural light pours in, making the space fresh and inviting as soon as you walk in. Whether you want a lunch-time meal or a late-night cocktail, the Flipside is the next new place to put on your “must-try” list. In the words and tone of Sam Cooke — “let the good times roll.”
